Ultra Trail 163k endurance race from Chamonix to Chamonix

Now in its sixth year, the Ultra Trail is revered globally by the endurance fraternity with athletes from over 100 countries competing for pride of finishing what is essentially three marathons in one day - with no cash prizes here, just a the sweet sense of acheivement and a reason to train.

This year the race set off in the late afternoon heat from Chamonix, with the 2,370 runners passing through France, Italy and Switzerland before returning to the finish in Chamonix.

The main part of the race takes place at night and this year saw the runners pass through 10 villages who had arranged their own festivities to welcome the runners.
