La Plagne sits opposite to Mont Blanc and the Beaufortain massif offering great snow conditions and lively nightlife. Apart from skiing and snowboarding La Plagne offers skidoos, bobsleigh, skating, paragliding and a new 900m snow park.
La Plagne offers the biggest cable car in the world, the Vanoise Express. An incredible feat of ski technology, the La Plagne – Les Arcs cable car has two double decker car holds 200 people in each section, taking a maximum capacity of 2000 people per hour with one trip taking as staggering 4 minutes from resort to resort.
La Plagne appeals to all levels, with lots of gentle blue and green runs close to the centre, and some brilliant off-piste skiing higher up.
In bad weather there is plenty of skiing below the tree line on the slopes to the lower villages.
1. Roche de Mio area
There are loads of blues that all criss-cross around the centre of La Plagne perfect for beginners. Once you've built up some confidence, take the Roche de Mio lift from Plagne Bellecote to the summit, you'll be able to take the fun wide cruiser piste all the way down.
2. Vega chair
The Vega lift from Plagne Centre is the perfect place to start with loads of simple blues.
3. Montchavin/Les Coches Tree Runs
La Plagne has some great glade and tree skiing for intermediates when the light and / or weather is bad. Head down to Les Coches and Montchavin.
4. Bellecote
Experts will find some of the steepest and most challenging slopes in France at Bellecote. There are some long, scary black runs here if the off-piste is too much.
5. Couloir Valencant
For expert experts only. This is a steep chute which you can access from the summit of Bellecote, and descends from 3,400m to 1,500m. You've got to be good and a guide is essential.
