The new link will go from Mont de Lans in the Deux Alpes area to Auris in the Alpe d’Huez area via Freney.

The work will start this year and be finished in time for the winter season 2012/13.

DAL, who control the mountain and the lift system of Les Deux Alpes, will also be put up for sale. There are reports that Alpe d’Huez will buy Les Deux Alpes, but the general consensus is that it's more likely that an independent company will take over.

Currently a Les Deux Alpes Season pass only allows for 10 days in Alpe d'Huez, while a 6 day pass gives a skier or boarder just one day on the Alpe d'Huez.

The new combined ski area will make a area of 469km of piste - with some rumours that the resorts might be linked by pistes via Freney.
