Altitude festival returns to Meribel

29th November 2008

There has been a strong comedy lineup in Meribel over the years, but last year the first comedy festival was put on by Taking the Piste - a company that is part run by Marcus Brigstocke.

It's something that appears to have evolved organically with comedians going out to Meribel and like the rest of us falling in love with skiing or snowboarding, the lifestyle, mountain air and everything about it. There seems now to be a thriving community of comedians, and this festival is a great way for them to combine their snow lust and stand up.

We loved this quote from the festival organiser, Richard Lette last year

‘People over 30 shouldn’t stay up all night drinking shots,’ says Richard Lette, an expat businessman who has lived in Meribel for 15 years. ‘Why? Because you can end up agreeing to put on a 15-day comedy festival at the end of it. Stay sober and have a salad instead.’

This year there will be hundreds of acts building from the success of last year including Marcus Brigstocke (Have I Got News For You, the Late Edition, The Now Show…), Ed Byrne, The Comedy Store Players, We Are Klang, Andre Vincent and many more.

This year the festival will also be carbon neutral.
