1 in 4 Brits regularly drunk in charge of skis or snowboard

MORE TH>N travel insurance has released a report showing that more than half a million Brits will unwittingly ski or snowboard at almost double the drink drive limit this ski season.

The drink drive blood alcohol limit is 4 units. According to the research that means that nearly 600,000 Brits will ski or board drunk at some stage this ski season - the research cites that most of these will occur "the morning after" - after drinking the night before British skiers and boarders will at least once on a weeks holiday have 7 units of alcohol in their system in the morning. (Well over the UK drink drive limit)

These skiers won't be sober until 11am.

The report also shows that the myth of "fresh, cold mountain air" to clear the head doesn't actually help to sober you up.

Top tips for making sure you ski safe

  • If you feel unwell in the morning. Take a leisurely breakfast and head out a bit later. Allow the alcohol to get out of your system.
  • Buy a pocket breathalyser. These are now cheap and affordable.

The effects of being under the influnce include

  • Increased reaction times
  • Impaired balance
  • Impairment of perception
  • Loss of critical judgement.

MORE TH>N quite natually points out that being drunk on the slopes might invalidate your travel insurance.
