18th March 2009

Yay! Well done to Lesley McKenna, Kate Foster, Ben Kilner and Dom Harington who will compete in the half-pipe.

British snowboards will compete at World Cup finals

Zoe Gillings will race in the snowboard-cross. And in the tradition of Greg Rusedski (tennis) and Audrey Harrison (boxing) we've got a Canadian-born Brit in Adam McLeish who's going to take place in parallel giant slalom.

The finals will take place from 20-22nd March, Zoe Gillings is perhaps our best hope - she's currenty seventh in the world and has finished in the top 10 in all but one of her World Cup races this season.

In the half-pipe, Lesley McKenna, will be using all of her experience (she's a old dog at 34) but not to be ignored by the young-un's as she's still ranked in the world's top 20, While Scot Kilner is not to be entirely discounted as he has recorded four top 20 results in World Cup competitions this season.

British Coach Leo Addington said: "For the British team to have four in the half-pipe finals is a considerable accomplishment.

"For Lesley McKenna, at this stage in her career, to continuously produce performance after performance shows that she has the physical and mental abilities to still put it down to the opposition.

"Ben's natural ability is phenomenal and as a younger guy he is showing that he can continually get the results which have put him in the top 30 in the world."
