Helmet Cam captures the horror of an avalanche

Scary stuff this..

But but seeing the risks, hopefully more people will look to take the right equipment and hire a guide at all times when venturing off-piste.

The film shows a skier falling and being caught in an avalanche. The guys gets noticable panicked with no idea of whether he will be rescued.. Thankfully this story has a happy ending when he gets dramatically dug out and rescued after less than 5 minutes.

This is simply a very sobering and unbelievable video. However, you should take away from this video all the positive things that you can learn from it. Yes there are risks to the backcountry - but with proper gear, training, and guide(s) with avalanche and EMT training - you can greatly lower your chances of getting caught in an avalanche in the first place.....and coming back alive if you ever were to get caught in a slide.

The majority of avalanche victims die of asphyxiation within 45 minutes and even those lucky enough to find air pockets eventually succumb to hypothermia. Increase you chances of survival by always taking a guide and investing in the best kit.

This winter The SkiClub GB are also running some special avalanche training courses - keep your eyes peelled we'll post more details in a later post. But the more training you have the better!
