Resorts across Europe are reporting half a metre of fresh snow in less than 24 hours and forecasters are predicting more on Monday and later this week.

Snowfall has been so heavy that ski lifts have been closed, mountain roads disrupted, and risks of avalanches, with Mountain rescue departments telling skiers to stay on-piste and not risk off-piste.

France has seen the heaviest snow then western Switzerland and northern Italy. Knee-deep snow ON THE PISTES in Val d'Isere, France, and Davos (Switzerland). Europe's highest snowfall last week was recorded in Madonna di Campiglio in north-eastern Italy where 75 cm fell in 24 hours.

As heavy snow has covers the Alps, British Columbia, usually famous for its dry powder and brilliant snow conditions is predicted to receive one inch of snow over the next five days.
