Zermatt expands freeride area

Zermatt is Europe’s highest ski area one of only two resorts that remain open 365 days a year.

Zermatt this year has expanded is freeride terrain on the slopes of Stockhorn.

Freeriders can now use a restored mountain station at an altitude of 3405m on the mountain Stockhorn thanks to a new ski lift.

From this new mountain station freeriders can head to the rear, to the Dufourspitze, the highest peak in Switzerland: Zermatt had previously closed the Hohtälli-Stockhorn cable railway but this has re-opened.

With the new lift, the free ride area from Hohtälli or Rote Nase is completely accessible again. Freeriders now have a total of 38 kilometres of pistes in the Matterhorn Ski area.
